This begins with the character creator, as you step into the flocculent skin of one of the aforementioned creatures-an odd hybrid between a squirrel, rat, and any other scurrying critter that comes to mind. The mixture between old and new ideas doesn't always sit right, but Biomutant also manages to carve out its own identity amid its many inspirations.īy clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's It's a flavorful petri dish, for sure, and there are plenty of uneven and drab aspects to its overall design and structure. Yet it also consists of a mishmash of fairly obvious influences, from a Breath of the Wild-esque structure to combo-driven combat that's similar to Devil May Cry, and other familiar elements from the likes of Fallout, Max Payne, and Borderlands. Throw in some furry anthropomorphic creatures, and Biomutant's character design and general style is certainly atypical of the genre. But Biomutant also utilizes a vivid color palette that makes its verdant fields and picturesque red mountains pop with the kind of striking vibrancy that's rarely associated with the apocalypse. The remnants of its neglected towns are still populated by dilapidated buildings and roaming bandits, and its overgrown roadways are littered with the burnt-out husks of abandoned vehicles. The closest comparison that comes to mind is probably the latter.Biomutant's post-apocalyptic open world differs from the norm, even if it's guilty of adhering to a few familiar tropes. With a few improvements to what's already there, I can easily see this game at the very least providing an experience that's comparable to that of the Far Cry and Borderlands games. My honest rating would be somewhere between 7-8. It goes against my own principles to do this, but I'm rating this a 10 to offset the negative reviews, as I can't even imagine how this game could be perceived as outright bad from an objective standpoint. I already hope and look forward to a sequel to this game, as I had a lot of fun exploring the vast and gorgeous world of Biomutant.

It definitely lends ideas from a lot of other games, and I'm not sure if that's the reason behind why so many people are rating this game unreasonably low, but it also provides a few really creative and fun ideas in it's own right. But the total sum of Biomutant is a very solid and fun game in it's genre. There are areas of the game that could use some improvements, and while the fetch- type side quests aren't all that bad for what they are, the fact they're fetch quests will likely throw a lot of people off. There are areas of the game that could use some improvements, I genuinely don't understand the low user scores. I genuinely don't understand the low user scores. Games aren’t as good overall than they use to be. I looks like a bunch of people have skipped this game since I barely see any user reviews for this game. The story isn’t going to surprise you but the world is just very unique and great to explore. Typical foundation to a bunch of games but it’s done well. Join a clan and slowly take over 6 others along with trying to save the world. You have two paths that you can take, light, dark, or a little bit of both. You’re always running into new gear, tools, weapons so there is a lot of customization to your weapons and appearance. There is surprisingly a lot to this game.

I eventually got it for free and went to my backlog until I got the whim to play it. When it first released, I didn’t care for the art style and I assumed the story would be barebones so I stayed away. I’ve been catching up on my backlog and ran into this gem. This score is given out rarely and indicates a game that cannot be missed.

A truly elite title that is nearly perfect in every way. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions. I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games.

I own a PC (built by me), Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, PS3, PS4, PS5, and a Switch. Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I also play a lot of racing games and use to play multiplayer games in my high school days but now that it's hard for me and my friends to find a good time to link up so now it’s rare for me to get into a multiplayer game. I also play a lot of racing games Quick background on me the reviewer, I tend to like single player games that is heavy on narrative the most.
